C.C. Cyclery & Co. / Continuum Cycles
A History Lesson
Continuum Cycles started with founder Jeff Underwood in 2004 as an undergound frame company & mobile bicycle repair business. working both in the East Village on Ave A. between 10 & 11th. & the West Village. In 2006 Continuum partnered up w/ Earthtruks, a cargo messenger company.
Continuum Cycles & Earthtruks was located at 199 Ave B. It functioned as a bike shop, frame company & messenger company. After expanding 4 times on the same block, Jeff opened had created multiple spaces. 1) repairshop only, where customer would drop off their bikes at the door. then store 2) was sales of bicycles with a smaller repairshop inside. Store 3) was accessories, Clothing, & components on display & in glass cases on display. Then you had store 4) Continuum Coffee, the “cyclist cafe” next door to the shop which ended up being a neighborhood coffee shop & not what one would think a cyclist cafe would be. Continuum Coffee was initially in Continuum Cycles but quickly outgrew the space & in 2011 the next storefront south of the shop was leased & renovations started. Continuum Coffee served vegan treats, sunday brunch cooked by Jeff himself & had events like movie night, open mic, comedy night & of course it was not uncommon for people to use it as a meet up location for group bike rides.
IN the winter of 2014, the Continuum Cycles & Coffee closes its doors to move to Bedstuy Brooklyn, but this transformation never happend. The new space fell through so the search for a new space continued.
After that winter, the search for the right spot was over. Brooklyn was not in Continuum’s cards. The following spring Jeff opened C.C. Cyclery & Co./ Continuum Cycles" w/ Bill Svenstrup at 530 East 13th st., leaving the name Continuum Cycles for the frames & components & C.C. Cyclery & Co. as the bikeshop. Staying there until 2024 when the 530 E. 13th location of CC Cyclery closed.
